WHO ARE WE
Windwalker Ranch is sponsored by The Justus Curry Foundation, a nonprofit corporation providing respite, recreation and education. The Ranch was inspired by Justus Curry and a grandparents vision to provide a place where people of all ages and abilities can come to experience the joy of being fully present and capaple. A place where they can discover hidden abilities, heal old wounds and build new dreams, and most of all remember who they are. It is our mission here at the ranch to meet each person with a commitment to provide them with the tools and assistance needed to discover and live their best self.
HISTORY
The Ranch began many years ago with the birth of Justus Curry, now 11 years old. Justus has severe Cerebral Palsy, is nonverbal and non mobile. He spends his day being cared for by his mother Melissa, who has committed each hour of her life to creating a space for Justus to live, laugh and feel the gift of family. Watching his life unfold reminds all of us of the things we take for granted in this world. The long list of things to be grateful for is the blessing of being outdoors. The gentle streams that provide a place of cool relaxation in the summer, are difficult at best to access from a wheelchair. Windwalker Ranch provides a space where all people can come to enjoy these simple pleasures.
We have had many starts and stops along the way as we developed the program. most of these involved gathering the needed funds to complete the next phase of the program. We located the land, built barns, fences and arena. We trained horses, certified and trained instructors, developed programs and seminars, cut brush and built trails. We opened for business in the Spring of 2005. We have had many bumps along the way, and many firsts. Among the most memorable is the undiluted smile of a child as they ride a horse for the first time.
